the great hallway update of 2012 would not be complete without a lighting overhaul.
i absolutely, positively, passionately hate the lights that are up in the halls currently. These gross flourescent ring fixtures that seemed big in the 60's and 70's are just so ugly and evil.

I'm going for some lights from schoolhouse electric. Kinda vintagey, kinda modern, and definitely cool. A pendant for the entrance/foyer and flush mounts for upstairs in the hall. More on their awesome showroom in posts to come.

our next project is a biggie...the entrance hall and the 3 story staircase. we've been debating, discussing, and toying around with color choices lately. of course, i had some reference on pinterest of some foyers & hallways i liked the look of. so from the get-go we were thinking gray and white, with a pop of color on the door (not the front door but a second door once you're inside the vestibule).
i think i lost sleep over this decision...because we are hoping not to have to paint this hallway again for a good long time (from the circa 1983 color choices the previous owners picked, it seems like they thought the same!). fingers crossed.

the 3 gray choices (plus white for the upper wall and red for the door)

the winning combination!

we love trying different options and color choices out with photoshop...it definitely helps when you can't quite picture what a color combo might look like.

ok, i know i said that the front door is the next project but the summer and good weather got away from us fast....so we'll move to an indoor project instead.
not a very glamorous project....3 stories of the hallway needs a pretty big paint job, but this awful, circa 1983 teal color (previous owners with no taste) is just to big to ignore any longer. i'm tired of apologizing for it every time someone walks in. what a first impression! so we'll try for something a bit more neutral...gray and white anyone? big surprise huh?
watch out...these photos are a little embarrassing.

we went over to the neighborhood of dumbo over the weekend to check out some artists open studios during the dumbo arts festival. i really love these open studio events around town (next one's in gowanus). what a treat to see some great art, meet the artists, and see their workspaces while walking around some cool neighborhoods! for a nosey-parker like me it's amazing. some of these people have the most amazing views here on the waterfront!

jeez, i absolutely loved this painting!

this one too...it was only like 8 inches
