we've gone to the queens location of Build It Green a bunch of times but now there's one just a few blocks away. Not like we need anything but it's fun to cruise around. They basically take donations from people who are renovating their homes and also take leftover building materials (there's 2 entire kitchens for sale!). In the past we've bought doors and donated some basement windows that came in the wrong size. This one had a bunch more furniture and books and thrift store-type things (too much in my opinion) but i guess when you  have a space this big you can welcome it all!

as much as i absolutely adore where we live in brooklyn....going out to lake tahoe on vacation has me truly smitten with the west and this part of california (and nevada). which happens to me everywhere we go on vacation...i wind up trying to figure out how i too can have a little piece of that. i guess photos will be my little piece of that. such a gorgeous place with so many things too do! i highly recommend it!

D R E A M I N G A N D S A V I N G

i've been dreaming of new windows for the front since the day we bought our house. we're hoping that when we eventually redo our living room, we'll get brand new windows with all the fixin's complete with crisp clean moldings to surround them...which will cost a small fortune since our windows are like 6 feet tall.

we're fully experiencing the terrible-ness of our current 1970's era brown aluminum windows...most of which barely function...as we've gotten them fixed twice in the past 6 years. 

i've been grabbing some shots of windows i particularly like. these are right around the block...i gotta find out where they got them!

these are wood, black "2 over 2" which i think is pretty fitting with the style and era of our house...which is the same as this one around the block. hello gorgeous.

Though we're not currently in the market for a new couch/sofa, i can dream. A&G merch in williamsburg always has lots of great furniture....i couldn't help but get a few shots of some particularly tasty sofas to keep in mind for the (hopefully near) future.

how cool is this wallpaper? seen in one of our favorite shops in williamsburg 'the future perfect', this wood panel wallpaper looked super realistic. i had to go right up to it and run my hand over it to see it was wallpaper. the other patterns hanging in the sample book looked pretty killer as well. want it!

in the never-ending-quest for art lately, we were glad to come across this awesome beatles print at the carroll park flea market at which we were selling stuff...so between the stuff we sold and the print we bought it all kind of evened out...til we got to the framing of course! big prints = big buck$.

building a 'scaffold' above the staircase to drill the anchors and hang the print on the wall.

the fab four are lookin' great on our enormous wall over the staircase, though quite a process putting it up though with no floor to stand on!

after months of searching for the prefect lamp for this space, i took a chance and ordered this 'green apple' colored Robert Abbey lamp online... desperately hoping that it would be just the right shade of green. it's an absolutely perfect complement to the color and pattern of the new/old green chair in the living room. success at last! now, just a little more styling to be done here.

i'm terribly sad to say goodbye to my father-in-law and most loyal, dedicated reader. his unfailing interest and curiosity in what we were doing at our house 2500 miles away is what inspired me to start blogging to begin with.
i'll miss writing every post as if it were just for you...but really they still are.

this weekend we took our bikes over to governor's island...a quick (sort of) ride on the free ferry from brooklyn bridge park. there's so much to see and it's so fun to see everyone peddling around or laying about on the grass with the most amazing views of downtown manhattan.
