another great (and inexpensive ;-) lighting idea is this cool 'cove light' in our bathroom. basically the ceiling drywall stops short of the adjacent wall....then there's a long florescent fixture in the void which is kind of hidden by a little lip. so it just washes the wall in bright light and you never see the fixture. brilliant!
