you all know i'm always keeping my eyes peeled for a fabulous windowbox to photograph. this past few days it's been so gorgeous out (80 degrees in may?!) i've been ridding my bike to the train in brooklyn heights....which is prime windowbox stalking territory. granted, many of these are professionally done by caretakers, landscapers, and florists (it is filthy rich brooklyn heights) but they are absolutely gorgeous.

here's a fun little time lapse video of the photoshoot of the garden yesterday. this is only about 3 hours during the late afternoon..the first video i tried didn't quite work but you get the idea. there's a bit of the shots they did of us sitting at the table trying to 'act natural' as we passed slices of watermelon to each other over and over....mortifying!

T H E B I G D A Y

yesterday a small crew came to our house to photograph our yard/garden for a new quarterly magazine. which is why we've been going nuts in the yard the past 5 weeks trying to get it ready for it's closeup. i was contacted back in the fall about doing a little story about our place and tuesday the day finally arrived!
we had a fabulous stylist named brice, who i became fast friends with as she lives right in the neighborhood :-) , the photographer tria giovan (check out her other photo work here), and her assistant morgan. they started at 8:30 am and worked tirelessly til 5:30, cleaned and packed everything up for another hour, and done! it was exhausting...and really cool. i'm glad it's over!

i need alot of new plants for a bunch of empty areas of the yard. we ventured out to long island's awesome nursery, Hicks. they had plenty of great things....but not quite was i was looking for. still managed to spend a bunch on some awesome plants that'll work out just fine. i think i need another trip when more of what i need is in...still a little early.

Citibike share is finally happening here in nyc after a year's delay. yesterday started the pre-membership sales...for a membership fee i can ride any bike to any other docking station for free for a year! i'm member #979!
we've used this in london and montreal and it's such a great way to hop on a bike and run an errand or ride around and experience the city! obviously, i'm excited!

the bench project is done...we've now got an awesome custom, totally unique bench AND got rid of a giant beam that we couldn't store anywhere. cool! finished pic to come!

i've been waiting impatiently (along with many others im sure!) for the last frost date so i can get planting! on a day off when it was sunny and 70 degrees i couldn't help myself and got some of these dahlias into the ground. they're gonna be beautiful...i hope...this plant's a first for me.

B Y E , H I T A B L E

we've had this modern metal table going on 6 or 7 years now. i think we've gotten a good run from it. it's starting to get a little gross looking and some of the legs are a little bent from one of our few friends that actually likes to dance did a little breakin' on a bench years ago and nearly collapsed it. i wound up selling it to a crazy person on craigslist...what an ordeal!
we've since bought a nice new table at good ol' ikea that's lookin' pretty fab.
