......................................................................

well it took about 3 months but this kitchen was well worth the wait (and sweat, and tears). we started in early december, continued on through a few blizzards, some delayed deliveries, plus the holidays, but the last piece (ductless AC!) of this crazy puzzle has made this one amazing kitchen!

the renovation of this kitchen also involved a back hallway and bathroom which is right next to it. it made sense to do both the kitchen and bathroom at the same time since alot of their plumbing was tied into each other (hence the perpetutally clogged drains).

i've been collecting antique egg beaters for a few years now. they've been packed away in the closet for about 7 years now, but i was thinking there might be a fun way to display them near the kitchen. without being so literal as to put them up right in the kitchen we thought maybe on the hallway wall right off the kitchen. so we opened the long neglected box and picked through to find a few of the best ones. chris cleaned them up (while i was sick on the couch...what a dear husband) and hung them over the weekend.
i have to say...they really are cool...so intricate and sooo old...they all still work and to be honest i really do still use one of my newish ones for a quick mix.

guess what i got...the modern cuckoo clock i've been drooling over and posted about in december of last year!
better yet...i didn't pay 700 bones for it from DesignWithinReach, but bought it stright from the black forest cuckoo online store (there are many).
what's funny is that when we were in montreal we ran into the only open store on a bitter cold day, and it happened to be a clock store (that also had hot coco for some reason...thank god) and they had other versions of this clock...which i'm glad we saw, because i think that sold chris on it. it was meant to be!
it's absolutely perfect for this space and looks fantastic!

well...it's pretty much done. we started this kitchen/bathroom renovation on december 3rd and pretty much finished a little over 3 months later (to be expected i guess). aside from some art to buy and a clock (more on that later) here's some "complete" photos of our new gorgeous kitchen.

i don't quite have everything organized or unpacked or bought...but here's few little details of some things i'm pretty jazzed about so far.

an amazing idea seen on a favorite blog remodelista.com...a gorgeous Aalto vase used as a utensil holder.

designed by Finnish architect Aalvar Aalto in 1936,
the Aalto vase requires three separate glass blows to create
this sink is 9 inches deep!
all the plates are white...but we're thinking yellow might be our "accent" color...looks great!

another stolen idea...this time from doorsixteen.com

with homes in nyc having so little spare room you gotta take advantage of every nook for storage! we find that if you plan ahead a bit it does pay off. we had big plans for the the backdoor area shelf being deeper and up to the ceiling but when all was said and done, it only came out to about 6 inches deep (see that outlet...i was going to put my beloved toaster oven here). not much to really run with. so we scaled down and made this "cat stuff and cookbooks" central.
i have to say...it's insanely helpful living within walking distance to an ikea.

this weekend the moment i had been waiting for finally arrived. unpacking 15 or so boxes from my old kitchen into my new, fabulous kitchen. fun right? there were moments of fun...like putting pots & pans into their drawers and the silverware into the custom made drawer dividers (a great idea thanks to diywithadd.com.  more fun included the vertical storage for sheetpans, cutting boards, etc....i'm soooo glad we did this.
the no fun part was unearthing some things that i really liked that were in the old kitchen, but just don't fit, looks-wise and size-wise, into the new.

these babies are 2 sheet pans deep...you wouldn't believe the amount of stuff in here!
that little light is our wifi which is tucked in the back of this cabinet.
