every weekend here in brooklyn we have the wonderful 'brooklyn flea' to look forward to.
in the winter months it's held in the gorgeous landmark interior of the old williamsburg savings bank on flatbush ave. we're always drawn to any kind of old typography items and this week we bought a handful of metal letters for our big jar of woodblock letters on our office desk. I had to have the R as a tribute to my former last name.

...or maybe this should be called 'around the borough'. this is one of my favorite stores in Williamsburg to poke around in called Moon River Chattel. As described (on apartmenttherapy.com) "an antique and home store that will charm your senses with it's vintage chic. And for those who have whole brownstones to do, they also do architectural salvage, plumbing fixtures and hardware."
It's one of those stores where you want to buy everything in it but don't know where the heck you'd put it...everything's just so cool.

west village - HUB station bicycle store

i usually try and get out of the office a bit during lunch. after days of rain and gross weather, it's finally gorgeous out! this week's lunchtime minitrip was a short walk from the office on varick up to
charles street and the HUB station bicycle store. it's like bicycle heaven...actually, city bicycle heaven to be specific since there's lots of great used old bikes and more european style bikes which are perfect for riding here in the city (as opposed to lame 10 speeds and mountain bikes). they have those new-ish linus bikes which are fab, super simple, and perfect for nyc (except for the fact that you cant leave good bikes outside here).

a few blocks up park avenue from the office is the Scandinavia House cultural center.

There's a museum, a cute restaurant, and a fab little gift shop...worth a little peek in.

and you know how much i love scandinavian anything!
