we've been in the hunt for a while now for a lamp for our living room...thought they had some nice ones at mitchell gold & bob williams but they turned out to be just too big. i'd never been in the store though, and really loved some other things they had like some really excellent art, and a couch i'm totally smitten with.

this past weekend was the carroll park flea market....a great opportunity for us to get rid of some junk...a necessity when you're trying to keep up a somewhat clean, minimal home. we got together with some friends and combined our junk, sold some junk, then donated the rest of the junk. a good time was had by all...especially when it involved a brunch platter for us to chow down on in the early morning hours.

i shouldn't call this a junk shop...more of a treasure trove of old weird stuff. while visiting the parents in florida (insert 'old weird stuff' joke here? no!) we visited a bunch of antique store in sweet town (city?) of melbourne. didn't buy anything but couldn't help snagging some photos of what i could have bought tons of.

we've been on the hunt for some large art for above the staircase for some time now. as you may know, that large art cost a fortune! we're diy/artsy people...let's just make our own! a few years ago we saw a great artist during the gowanus artist studio tour who used resin/epoxy to make gorgeous, glossy, abstract landscapes. so this past weekend chris did some tests with a bunch of supplies he's been collecting in preparation for doing his own large gorgeous glossy abstract paintings.

after a lovely sunday brunch in williamsburg with our friend mark, we walked around the 'hood aimlessly and stumbled upon the gorgeous new wythe hotel...which opened just a few days later.
amazing details in this old factory building. even though i have no pics of the rooms i still want to sleep over! plus the sign outside is killer!

i've posted before about our need for art our giant white walls...i mean c'mon 2 'artsy-fartsy' people like ourselves with no art? we're still really digging that "infalated-deflated" project and they keep coming up with new pieces....here's some new ones we're now considering (for a series of 3)

last weekend we drove to sunset park...which is about 10 minutes south of us. i'd heard about a store that specializes in 'fake meats' which is in sunset park's chinatown. it was totally weird and cool.
the family that owns our 'meat' store were super sweet with lots of little kids running around. i really loved that so many things were formed into the shape of the animal they were supposed to represent...like lobsters, ducks, chickens and fishes. cute!

we felt like we were in another country with all the signs without a stitch of english printed on them.  alot of weird businesses in general i dont even know what some of them were.

poor willis-y. not looking too great after coming home from the vet. he had some little
growths on his skin removed which might be cancerous. send good thoughts over.
he's doing great and is on the mend....just a little wishy washy.

i love this idea that Stockholm-based Pretty Pegs have come up with. an online shop offering a leg collection that works as an alternative to the standard Ikea legs...we all love ikea furniture but some of the legs are pretty blah...why not dress 'em up?

i love a good garden shop. while we were out in beautiful cold spring harbor over the weekend we stopped in at the main street nursery to look over the early spring offerings. the best part was tucked in the back where they had the most adorable little barn and petting zoo. anyone who knows me, knows i'm crazy for animals so of course we had to hang a little.
