this is the adorable Midnight who lives at the deli right on our corner...i'm probably in this deli every day. of course i always say hi to midnight who sleeps on the bags of cat litter. very sweet...and willis-y.

well...not really our neighborhood...but this store very well should be in our neighborhood! walking around brooklyn heights sunday, we came upon this absolutely amazing store called Holler & Squall : Things Unlimited (71 Atlantic Avenue).
I have to say it was one of the most beautifully styled and set up store i've ever been in, carefully curated and endlessly fascinating. The owner (who opened the shop with his wife 2 yrs ago) describes his shop as “Collectible oddities, antique industrial, something for everyone.” I could have bought a ton of things in here...but i'll show you what we did buy.

tribeca - schoolhouse electric
Schoolhouse Electric was a short walk from the office down to Tribeca. It's a store i'd been meaning to go in for a few years but was a little too out of the way before now (vestry and hudson st (see what i mean?).
From their website "Between 1900 and 1950 schoolhouse-style shades and light fixtures were widely used in private residences and institutional settings, including schools, galleries and libraries. But by the 1960s only a handful of designs remained in production. Our collection represents some of the best examples of true American lighting design and is the inspiration behind Schoolhouse Electric Co."
Really cool store with, of course, amazing light fixtures (i want so many of them) but also a really cool general design theme of all kinds of schoolhouse stuff like vintage globes, desks, science tables, & chalkboards. very inspirational.

 spent some nice time in Brooklyn Bridge Park again this weekend and thought i'd share more photos. we rode our bikes through here a few weeks ago, but i ventured deeper in and laid around getting some sun on the grassy hump overlooking the water. gorgeous!

soho - global table

this edition of lunchtime mini trips features a cute store right by the office called Global Table on Sullivan street. as you can see, the front windows is crazy awesome and i just had to go in. from their site "the store stocks a carefully edited selection of dishes and accessories from around the world with an emphasis on simple lines and vivid finishes". fab. i'll show you what i bought in an upcoming post :-)

over the gorgeous long weekend i took a random bike ride towards the newly completed section of brooklyn bridge park. holy cow! it's absolutely amazing! i really love some of the creative and unconventional choices they've made with shapes, stone, plants. even leaving some of the old pilings in the water as an art piece (i think they're old). anywho, get over there if you can...truly inspiring!

west village - HUB station bicycle store

i usually try and get out of the office a bit during lunch. after days of rain and gross weather, it's finally gorgeous out! this week's lunchtime minitrip was a short walk from the office on varick up to
charles street and the HUB station bicycle store. it's like bicycle heaven...actually, city bicycle heaven to be specific since there's lots of great used old bikes and more european style bikes which are perfect for riding here in the city (as opposed to lame 10 speeds and mountain bikes). they have those new-ish linus bikes which are fab, super simple, and perfect for nyc (except for the fact that you cant leave good bikes outside here).
